It was a cool but dry November lunch time with the 13:30 kick off approaching all looked set for this Shield clash. The teams lined up with a few changes from when they team met in the league earlier in the season.
It didn't take long for Forester to show they planned on picking up where they left off from the earlier encounter with the Forrester pack showing its dominance early in the game and on the 13th minute Forester crossed the line after a well-structured catch and drive from 15 yards with Ryan Ingils touching down and converted by Fraser Newbury. 7-0
The game then became a little scrappy and it looked like Forrester had taken the foot off the gas as no points were scored until Leith crossed the line in the 32nd minute but missed the conversion brining the score 7-5. Forrester had to make a change with PJ Crolla having picked up a knock and was replaced by Alan Panther with a slight reshuffle in the back line.
It seemed this gave Forrester a wakeup call and in the 38th min they replied with another well controlled drive from the forwards this time with Craig Morrison crossing the line and Fraser Newbury converting bringing the half time score to 14-5.
HT 14-5
With the second half underway it only took until the 43rd min for the ginger juggernaut Fraser Newbury to cross the line and converted his own try to make the score 21-5. Forrester made a triple change with Paddy Bree on for Mark Wyper, Ewan Brodie on for Euan Wardrop and Garry Smith on for Ryan Inglis.
Again Leith showed they were not just making up numbers and managed to cross the line on the 51st min and convert bringing the score to 21-12. The game then became a little scrappy again and saw a yellow card for Forrester number 9 Sean Broadfoot when both him and a Leith player over ran a bouncing ball and the ball then hitting Sean Broadfoot in the back with the ref deciding that he deserved a yellow card (not the 1st strange decision of the day) it left both sets of players/fans wondering what had happened.
It wasn't long before Leith also because reduced to 14 men after a cynical slapdown saw a Leith man taking a 10min rest.
With the sides both playing with 14 Forrester looked to add points on the board and Fraser Newbury stepped up and slotted a penalty on the 60th min to make the score 24-12.
This seemed to be exactly what was needed to ignite winger Neil Robertson in to the game who then crossed the time in the 62nd (converted by Fraser Newbury) and added another in the 64th (conversion missed by Fraser Newbury). Fraser Newbury then slotted a penalty over on the 70th min mark and Forrester also made another change with Mark Wyper coming on to replace Johnny McMillan. With the game moving in to the final 10 minutes Neil Robertson clearly had a taste for Port and finished his hat-trick in the 72nd min taking the Score to 46-12.
With the try's flooding in Leith forwards decided they had been punished enough and the scrum became uncontested, Forrester took this opportunity to rest the hard working props David Allan (Fish) and Callum Aitken replacing them with Ryan Inglis and Euan Wardrop. The rest of the game played out with little to report.
