Forries pick up their first win, despite not getting out of second gear.

Thanks to Richard Gray for the match report

The season has not started the way Forrester RFC would have like, but a clash against another team at the foot of the table, Ross High RFC, would be a ‘get right’ game for the boys in green.

The game kicked off and Forries put good pressure on Ross High, which ultimately led to a turn over for Stephen Delahunt (Dele).

A few phases later a nice back move saw Stuart Fulton (Stookie) put Dele into space, there was still work to be done and Dele did well to score from 30 yards out, beating four defenders in the process. Graeme Dudgeon added the extras and the score was 7-0 just minutes in.

After the try Forries let Ross High get a little life, but Bradley Graham turned them over and then put Dele in space again. Dele could of backed himself, but came back inside looking for support. That move did not ultimately lead to points, but Ross High would not be able to hold on much longer.

Dele found himself with the ball on the left side of the pitch and put in a chip kick. The Ross High full back, or rather sacrifice, fumbled the ball allowing Dele to toe it ahead and pick it up for an easy trot in. Conversion good 14-0.

Again after the try Forries seemed to be running in treacle and Ross High were given the chance to build pressure. Forries conceded several penalties in their own half and drew the ire of the referee. This was apparent when Forries conceded a scrum penalty whilst going forward. Ultimately this would give Ross High the opening they needed to make the score 14-7 going into half time.

The second half kicked off and the pressure of Ross High and the ref’s ill feeling were telling. Ross High pounded away at the Forries line, but like a poor radar system could not account for the Bogie (Paul Bogie that is) who turned them over to relieve the danger.

After getting surviving the onslaught. Forries won a kickable penalty with big carries from captain John McMillan and Eoin McDonald (Ragnor). Kick was good 17-7 good guys.

After a little arm wrestle Ragnor started another period of promise with a sweet turnover. Ross got pinged for holding on and Forries added another 3 points.

Forries found themselves down to 14 men after Dan Parks was yellow carded for what the ref deemed to be impeding a player taking a quick tap; the writer’s opinion was he was just stood like a spare part and the ref had an itchy trigger finger, but hey ho I am just an amateur pundit (still better than Sir Clive).

Despite losing a man it would be Forries who would strike next. In a move that started with a Sean Broadfoot strip in the 22. Forries broke up the left with good interplay and a bang average offload by Stookie. Forries then switched the play right with forward and backs alike linking up. John McMillan would ultimately unleash Dele up the right who would dot down for the trick and port for the lads.

After the score Ross High would have one final attack, but even a good blocking line from the ref couldn’t aid them.

In the end it was not the best Forries performance, but their class is apparent. FINAL 27-7.
