The Mighty Greens travelled down to Earlston RFC on Saturday looking to give the big Border side a good run about. Knowing it was going to be a tough game the boys switched on early, getting a feel for the pitch and the heavy running they were about to do.
From the KO the Greenies were on form, attacking hard and pinning the opposition back whilst defending. Hard hit being put in, and not giving Earlston much ground.
6 Minutes into the game and Forrester’s first time in the opposition half seen Dave Allan sit down the winger, brush off the outside centre and run in from the opposition 22m line under the sticks. All this completed after a great turnover, and phase play for the Mighty Greens. Neil Robertson converting the try for the extra 2 points.
10 Minutes into the game and Forrester score another try with Carl Trahms touching the ball down, Robertson converting again.
The game looking very promising for the away team, Neil Robertson touched down after a great run from half way to score and covert to put Forrester 21 – 0 up 20 minutes into the game.
Earlston having now warmed up and come to their senses they begin to attack harder and play smarter rugby, looking to gain yards and keep the ball. 25 Minutes getting themselves over the Try line for an unconverted Try.
Moments later after the restart, Robertson slotted a penalty for another 3 points to the Greenies.
Half Time Earlston 5 – Forrester 24
The second half begins and Earlston explode into the game, running hard using there bigger players to smash the ball up the field. Forrester now defending hard and looking to cover each other, fortunately their discipline and well trained structure keeps Earlston working hard to get forward.
Earlston with some well worked phases manage to score 2 converted tries in the 3rd 20 minutes of play closing the gap to Forrester being 5 points ahead. The score 19 – 24, and a real fight for the win by both teams.
Forrester pushing and showing their true passion for the badge worked their way over the line twice for both tries to be disallowed.
Forrester pinned Earlston in their 22 for a few phases seen a lovely pop back inside to Mark Wyper who powered over the line. 70 minutes in for Robertson to convert, and take the Greenies 12 points ahead.
Earlston from the restart pounced back; keeping Forrester back to defend their phases on their own 5 metre line, eventually one of their big Earlston players crawled over the line on his knees where the ref gave the score... the conversion closing the gap to 5 points.
Forrester continued to battle it out keeping Earlston on the back foot for Sean Broadfoot to kick the ball out of play for the final whistle.
