A cracking day for rugby, calm, sunny and both teams in contention for a top of the table finish.
Forrester were looking to maintain their home record against a big Linden side. Early doors both teams missed penalties not far away from the posts.
The greenies were in top gear applying the pressure early doors and keeping the Linden on the back foot. 10 minutes in and Craig Morrison crossed the white wash with some great phases of play, Neil Robertson adding the 2 points.
Forrester keeping the pressure on scored a penalty (Neil Robertson) 23 minutes in followed by a converted Try scored by Garry Smith.
It took the opposition a while but they finally switched on and started playing to their potential. Now we really had a game on our hands.
Both teams attacking hard and working their phases seen a lot of ball moved around the pitch. Only forced errors turned a lot of the ball over for both sides.
Now Linden bashed the ball forward gaining yards from penalties and managed to score 2 unconverted tries. It seemed the Greenies had taken their foot off the gas.
Another penalty conceded by Forrester and again Linden took the yards finishing off with a well worked Try again unconverted to bring the score to 17 – 15.
The final play before the half and Forrester had stampeded toward the Linden line only to be held up by a great cover tackle.
Into the second half and Forrester gave away a penalty for Linden to take the lead for the first time in the game. This was short lived when Neil took us in front with a penalty 3 minutes later. The score now 20 – 18.
The second half was a real battle, teams fighting for possession and yards. Scramble defence managing to keep both teams in the game.
It wasn’t until the last 9 minutes where Linden scored the final try to take them in front.
The final score Forrester 20 v Hawick Linden 23
The home side devastated and gutted to have missed out on the 4 points with such a tight score line. However, heads are held high as we look to win the last 3 games of the season and complete our goal of finishing in the top 5!
