A warm sunny day and a short trip to Inverleith park and the Greenies looked to build on a good opening day victory. After a good dynamic warm up, Northern kicked the game kicked off and after a solid take and carry by Banksy, Alan's poor clearance led to a penalty being conceded! First blood to Northern with 3 points. Edgy opening to the game and the Greenies trying to spread the ball wide but there were a few nerves as the passes never quite went to hand. From early on, it was clear that Forries were the stronger team, especially in the forwards who were dominating the scrums. After a good break from Newbs, the ball was spread wide and ended up going out for a Northern throw only for Forries to steal the resulting line out and Banksy to cross the whitewash to open the greenies account! The play went back and forth with some solid defence keeping Northern at bay. A solid run from the Fish who put his opposite number on his arse brought a cheer from the travelling support. Another good break from Newbs only for poor hands to halt play again. After a great phase of nifty hands (finally), Calzo, yes Calzo, found himself on the wing and like a true winger, finished in the corner. Forries starting to take control of the game, however poor handling was the biggest downfall. There were big carries from Brodie and Himbo putting Forries on the front foot and again too much haste and poor hands causing the break in play. To and fro and a good line out opened up a set move for Lucas to burst through and neatly offload to Rashy to add another 5 points. Half time 19-3 with Forries looking the stronger team but too eager to play the offloading game, with drop balls keeping the score relatively close.
Good restart by Sean for the second half, allowing Stookie to rise like a salmon but unable to hold on and claim the restart. The knock on, leading to another scrum which again proved too strong for the Northern pack, earning a penalty which Newbs narrowly missed to the left of the upright. With Himbo everywhere like a blue arsed fly and some expansive rugby putting the boys in green in the front foot. Yet another line out won and the Forrie forwards showing their dominance driving over with Horse coming up with the ball having dotted it down for another score to secure the bonus point. Newbs with a good conversion. Another good break from Newbs who outpaced his opposite number (just about) to cross the line to add another 5. Forries really trying to turn the screw now and a slick move by the backs opening the Northern defence again only for the ball to be dropped. A solid Forries performance and a good win although there is room for improvement as the scoreline should have been a lot higher. Full time 31-3.
There were some good individual performances and a few contenders for man of the match and although he didn't get on the score sheet, he had another mammoth game in the green jersey. MOM Himbo
