Forrester welcome Leith to the fortress

Forrester wearing the long awaited new strips

A cloudy day and Forrester wearing the long awaited new strips (pretty shmert I may add), Leith kicked the game off and started well. Leith with a penalty early on which was converted for first blood to the visitors. The forwards showed yet again their domination with solid scrums from the start, while the backs looked impressive early on with some strong running. A stolen line out for the Greens allowed the backs to use the ball early and Newbs to burst through, shrugging off three tackles before offloading out the back door for Brodie to score a well worked try. Newbs with the conversion, 7-3. After the restart and some indecision in the backs, the ball fumbled allowing Leith to pick up the ball and score catching they boys in Green unaware, conversion successful, 7-10. Forries however, came straight back with some strong running and won penalty just about in front of the posts. Newbs converting and levelling the scores at 10-10. After manic opening to the game, it settled with both teams defending well and opting to kick rather than use then hands. Some quick hands releasing Robbie down the wing handing of a couple of leith boys with a solid break and winning a penalty. Newbs converting to put Forries ahead once again,13-10. Forries finally finding their second wind and strong running from Gav and Newbs setting the ball up for Alan to feed Brodie who powered over for his and Forries' second. Newbs with the conversion, 20-10. With Leith on the attack, the ball was dropped and Gav picked up and broke down the wing getting caught 10 meters from the line and the offload not quite going to hand. More good attacking from the Greenies allowing Brodie to cross the line once again, only to be disallowed by a marginal forward pass. Greens on the attack again and Rashy chipping forward, unable to collect himself allowing Himbo to toe the ball over the line and score another well worked try. Newbs with his first miss of the afternoon bringing the half to an end with the score at 25-10. Entertaining rugby for the neutral but Forries proving to be the stronger team in the first half.

Second half under way and good pressure by the Forries backs with Gav tacking the leith winger into touch. From the line out Stookie improvising and nudging one through only for Leith to kick into touch again. A good line out and drive by the forwards setting the ball up nicely for Sean to pick up at the back of the mall and snipe over for an early second half try. Newbs with the conversion, 32-10. Leith attacking hard but the Forries defence solid forcing the mistakes from the visitors. Alan too eager to take a quick penalty knocking the ball on and handing possession straight back. From the resulting scrum, Forries winning a free kick and a quick tap released Brodie, picking a magnificent line and finally completing his hat trick. Conversion from Newbs, 39-10. Straight from the restart and good hands from forwards and backs in the line releasing Gav for a good try. Conversion missed. 44-10. Leith starting to tire and Forries taking advantage with more attacking from the boys in green who had now hit their stride only for Horse to drop the ball with his hooves. A solid tackle from Banksy which was a tad high causing a coming together of a few heads and a warning from the referee. A bulldozing break from Banksy opening Leith up and some nifty hands ending up with Neily scoring in the corner. Newbs with a good conversion, 51-10. Some real champagne rugby now and more good hands allowing the Fish to cross the line and continue the route. Newbs with another conversion. 58-10. More good running rugby from the Greens finishing with Neily grabbing his second in the corner. Newbs with another good conversion 65-10. The onslaught continuing with Robbie picking the ball up and jinking through the defence to score his second of the afternoon and cap a fine performance from Forries. Newbs ending the game with another conversion. Final score 72-10.

There were a few contenders for MOM which was a difficult choice with very good individual performances from all the boys. Newbs with some good breaks and solid from the kicking tee; Banksy, tackling everything in his path and grabbing a score; Robbie and Neily grabbing two tries a piece but MOM has to go to Brodie with his hat trick (arguably could have been 4). Good performance all round setting up a mouth watering fixture next week with a top of the table clash against Dalkeith.
