Forrester fight off Christmas hangover for 5 points!!
With the 1st half under way it was clear both teams had a bit of a hangover from the festive period as neither played the fast running rugby that was seen in the previous meeting.
After 23 mins Forrester won a penalty just outside the 22 and Fraser Newbury stepped up and slotted it home for a 3-0 lead. Forrester put good pressure on Earlston during the 1st half and won a few good turnovers and penalties which resulted in Earlston losing a player to the sin bin a few minutes before the break.
Half time 3-0
With half time over Forrester got out of 2nd gear and took advantage of the extra man with a well worked try which was finally touched down (with a bit of driving support) by Fraser Newbury leaving himself an easy conversion making it 10-0 after 42 minutes gone. Forrester really seemed to have shaken the slow start in the 1st half and soon took advantage of the extra man again with 1st half sub Aidan Beveridge crossing the line and Fraser Newbury again making light work of the conversion 17-0. To make the task harder for Earlston a 2nd player was sent to the bin around the 50 minute mark, from the resulting penalty Forrester kicked for corner and drove over from the lineout with again Aidan Beveridge touching down the ball Fraser Newbury was unable to convert making the score 22-0 with Forrester hungry for the all-important 4th try.
After his 25min performance and 2 scores Aidan was replaced with a now rested Podge and shortly after Davie (the fish) Allan was replaced by Mark Wyper with Garry (horse) Smith moving forward to the front row and Gavin Sisson replacing Lucas Buxton in the backs.
After 57 Minutes the bonus point wait was over with some fast hands finding Paddy Bree out wide and the number 8 running from 25 yards to secure the 4th try and his 8th try of the season . . . . . although the other 7 combined don't come to 25 yards !!
With Forrester looking well in control they started to empty the bench making a triple change in the pack and also adding another penalty from the boot of Newbury making it 30-0 at around the 65 minute mark. The 2nd half played out with not much else to report other than Johnny (hamstring) coming on for Stewart Fulton resting the old man who had played extremely well and we can't forget to mention that Craig (Himbo) Morrison was replaced by Colin (BIG C) Gordon which I'm Sure Himbo will be getting some stick in training for this week.
Final Score 30-0 after a slow 1st half start Forrester looked to be back to normal in the 2nd half gaining the all 5 points on offer.
